In Memoriam

EarthLight Magazine #43, Fall 2001

We grieve, for all the innocent victims in the World Trade Center, the crashed airplanes, and the Pentagon whose lives were extinguished on September 11. We grieve for children who lost parents, for parents who lost children, for all families and friends who lost loved ones in this senseless tragedy. May we all have the courage to bear our grief, to listen deeply to each other, and to care compassionately for each other.

We grieve for the escalation of hatred and violence, for all the innocent victims who die on the planet each day. May we have the courage to face the dying that humans inflict on other humans, other beings, other cultures and ecosystems, all over the planet each day.

May we practice healing in our relationships, our communities, our world each day. May we find light in the darkness, lighting candles and nurturing the light in any way we can, and honor the lights we see. May we water the seeds of compassion, of beauty, of tenderness each day. May we have the courage to open our hearts, even though we feel vulnerable and afraid.

And may we hold Earth in the light of love each day, in every moment we can.

We in the EarthLight community will be holding Earth in this light every Thursday at 9 a.m. Pacific Time. For several months now, we have met for a period of silent prayer and meditation to strengthen and deepen our commitment to living the values reflected in the pages of EarthLight magazine. We invite you to join us, wherever you may be on Thursday, at the hour in your time zone that coincides with 9 a.m. in our time zone.

Blessings,

the EarthLight staff and volunteers.
